Each season, KMVT Community TV accepts applications for two (2) television / video production interns.
KMVT offers an extensive program in hands-on, production-based internships. Opportunities include studio and field work, developing news packages, and working on local sporting and special events. Interns also gain experience in areas of pre & post production as well as administration and producing. We offer internships three different times a year. Fall - September through December, Spring - January through April and Summer - May through August. Dates are flexible and will be considered on a case by case basis. Internships are unpaid. Minimum commitment is 120 hours.
The basic learning objectives for the television/video production interns at KMVT is to have a well-rounded television production experience. Most broadcast stations give interns few real production opportunities. KMVT, being a local community station, relies heavily on its interns to actually do production. This includes, working as crew on studio programs, ENG production, and working on our EFP mobile truck.
The intern should be able to proficiently handle many aspects of the studio, field camera work, and non-linear computer editing. We prefer all interns to have some kind of previous experience in their area of interest. However, KMVT is committed to training our interns. We do what we can to train our interns so they are proficient in these areas once they leave KMVT.
Our interns are also required to produce a 30-second Public Service Announcement for a local Non-Profit Organization. This gives the interns a great opportunity to actually develop a TV package that they can use for a demo reel and resume purposes.
An internship at KMVT is truly an excellent opportunity for the highly motivated and self-directed student to gain a breadth of experience in television production. The selected interns will find that the skill-sets they develop while interning at KMVT will truly help propel their career in television production and journalism.
