About KMVT 15

KMVT 15 Silicon Valley Community Media & Television is YOUR local TV station and voice. For more than 30 years, KMVT 15 has been a deeply-cherished institution, providing training in video production, media literacy, and a voice for hundreds of thousands of San Francisco Bay area residents as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to provide media literacy education, hands-on training, and civic engagement. We serve as a resource to narrow the digital divide through the use of technology, and provide the community with the tools to create media and utilize technology in a socially responsible manner.

Every summer, KMVT 15 offers Studio Production and Claymation camps for middle school students age 10-14.  Camps are 1 week long, and engage students in fun, hands-on-activities to learn behind-the-scenes production skills. In Claymation camp, students learn introductory stop-motion techniques similar to favorite Claymation movies such as Wallace & Gromit or Chicken Run.  Collaborating in small groups, students conceptualize, mold, animate and edit a Claymation final project. Student animations are then broadcast on Channel 15 and YouTube.

THE POSITION
We seek a summer Animation Instructor with experience in traditional animation techniques and with experience teaching youth.  Throughout the summer, our instructor will lead week-long Intro to Claymation courses.  This is an ideal position for school teachers, freelancers or college students, whose breaks coincide with the summer.  Our camp sessions run from June 9th through August 15, 2014, from 10:00 – 4:00PM.  Instructor must be available for a one-day training/set-up prior to camp start date.  Work hours are 9:30AM – 4:30PM, with an extended late evening on Thursdays to complete student final DVDs before Friday.

In the camp, students will be introduced to a variety of animation techniques, from frame-by-frame to stop motion animation (Claymation).  As a final project, students will collaborate to create a short Claymation animated video. From defining the concept, planning, creation of clay models, through videography and final editing – all will be taught and demonstrated step-by-step in this hands-on, fun-filled workshop.  The course is offered at the state-of-the art facilities of KMVT 15 Community Television, using our professional videography and editing equipment. KMVT provides all Claymation materials.  KMVT will provide a loose curriculum.  The instructor is encouraged to plan their own day-to-day lesson plan, which we can discuss prior to camp.
