Get Behind the Scenes and Make Television!

KMVT Community Television in Mountain View offers rewarding, hands-on workshops in television and video production! No previous experience is necessary. Our workshops give you the skills to crew on an existing show, produce your own show at KMVT, or simply further your understanding of media production.

We are introducing exciting new workshops in Documentary Production and Live Event Coverage, as well as one-night labs to improve a particular skill. Once you've taken a workshop here, find out how you can get involved as a volunteer crew-member to further your experience in media production!

Intro to Television Studio Production
(Four sessions on consecutive Wednesdays; 3 hours each session) $85.00

Learn all the skills necessary to crew on a television production. No previous experience necessary. Also recommended for future producers to get an idea of how a TV show is put together. Learn the basics of studio production including camera operation, floor direction, audio engineering, technical directing; tape operation and directing. Participants receive hands-on practice with all equipment crew positions. As a final project, the class produces a half-hour show, "Random Access," to be cablecast on KMVT15.  Classes are held at the KMVT15 Studio. Watch the course video.

Intro to Documentary Production - *NEW!*
(Four sessions on consecutive Wednesdays; 3 hours each session)    $85.00

Learn all the skills to create a documentary video!  No previous experience necessary.  In this course, students will choose a documentary subject, travel off-site to film, and then edit together the final piece.  Participants receive hands-on practice in coordinating an off-site shoot, setting up equipment, camerawork, lighting, interviewing and editing.  The final documentary will air on KMVT15. The first class meets at the KMVT15 Studio. Watch the video produced by the last class on Youtube.

Producer’s Training
(One 3-hour session held on the first Thursday of the month) $40.00Learn strategies to effectively plan and produce a public access television show.  Participants should either be currently producing a show or have an idea for a show.  Pre-production, budgeting, scripting, securing crew and post-production will be addressed. 
Prerequisite: Studio or Documentary Production,

Studio LABS – NEW short courses for the Studio!
(One session on consecutive Wednesdays; 3 hours each session)   $45 per sessionLearn advanced skills and concepts for television studio production including camera operation, floor direction, audio engineering, technical directing; tape operation and directing. Participants receive hands-on practice with all equipment and crew positions. Register for one session at a time.  Prerequisite:  Studio Production

Short Takes – short courses in video and web production!
(Each session  1-3 hours one-on-one with instructor).  $35 per hour.  By Arrangement.See the descriptions below for the variety of short one-on-one courses you can take with our instructors here at KMVT. Currently we offer short courses by arrangement in Video Editing, Field Camera, Video Blogging, and Uploading your Video to the Web! Please contact us at info@kmvt15.org to make arrangements for your one-on-one session. If you gather your own group, group lesson options for a discounted price per person are also available.

Field Camera course
This training introduces you to our Sony PD-170 Digital Camcorder and other equipment needed in field production. In 1 hour, learn how to set up the camcorder and operate the portable equipment. In 3 hours, you will also learn some field shooting methods and techniques.  This class is a pre-requisite for renting the PD-170.
Intro to Video Editing
Intro to Video Editing teaches you the basics of video editing through hands-on practice using our Adobe Premiere editing system. In 2 hours, learn basic editing concepts such as cutting, dissolving and adding music. In 3 hours, you'll also learn how to digitize video from tape, and edit with simple effects, music and titles. In 4-5 hours, you'll gain the knowledge to edit a simple project from start to finish, including how to export your final project to DVD.
Intro to Video Blogging
This is a hands-on introductory workshop about the exciting new world of video blogging; pod casting, and related graphics and web tools. You will survey and access existing video blogs while exploring basic camera, editing and publishing techniques for your personal video blogs. Although not required, it is suggested you bring your own laptop and existing video clips for exercises.
Uploading Videos to the Web
In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn how to upload your videos to the web.  We’ll guide you step-by-step to create an account on Youtube and OurMedia, upload your video to these sites, and then briefly discuss how to integrate this into your own website or blog. 


Training Cancellation Policy
All training classes must be paid for in advance. Full refund will be given if user cancels at least 24 hours in advance. If cancellation occurs less than 24 hours prior to the start of the class, KMVT, at its sole discretion, will retain all or part of the workshop fee. Reservations for trainings are not final until payment is secured.
