Media Matters Campaign
KMVT your local nonprofit community media center provides television services to Mountain View, Los Altos, Cupertino and Sunnyvale. KMVT’s mission is to provide media literacy education, hands-on training, and civic engagement. We serve as a resource to narrow the digital divide through the use of technology, and provide the community with the tools to create media and utilize technology in a socially responsible manner.
Designed to benefit the entire community, the goal of KMVT’s Media Matters Campaign is to raise a total $50,000. With this money we will be able to provide scholarships for over 125 students to attend camps and other classes throughout the year.
During the last two years we have raised over $450,000 to upgrade our studios to industry standard HD. These upgrades allow us to provide new, improved and expanded education programs at the station and out in the community.
None of our upgrades have been possible without your continued support. Silicon Valley continues to grow and excel in the highest of technologies, but each day the community faces new challenges which creates a greater need for knowledge and funding for programs. Each day we see a bigger digital divide. What does digital divide mean? Digital divide is the gap between demographics and regions that have access to modern information and communications technology, and those that don't or have restricted access. This technology can include the telephone, television, personal computers and the Internet.
Being in Silicon Valley doesn’t mean there is no digital divide. There actually is a large digital divide in our own community. All youth and adults deserve the opportunity to learn about digital and media literacy and how it affects their lives.
Media is used in every facet of everyday life to communicate, it doesn’t discriminate. Media education also creates opportunities for team building skills and leadership rolls through educational media content. STEAM programming incorporates media literacy training.
Here at KMVT we feel we have a social responsibility to bring individuals together from all backgrounds and provide media tools and knowledge they can use in their everyday lives. By individuals having this information they are then able to become informed citizens.
